Rust and Bone

Marion Cotillard
Good film. I thought Marion Cotillard's portrayal of her character was amazing.

I agree with those of our audience who said it was hard to watch –  it certainly wasn't  the passionate romance I'd been expecting. If hankies were required to be at the ready it would be for mopping up blood rather than wiping away tears.

The film was based on a book of short stories by Canadian author Craig Davidson. You can find a review of the book in a link below.

I could see where the bone comes from but not the rust so I'm grateful to Peter Bradshaw for explaining what the title means; apparently it refers to the taste in your mouth you get on taking a hard punch. I can't say I've ever noticed – perhaps I've never been hit hard enough.

Audience feedback was 82%. Although we had quite a good turnout –  enough to just about cover our costs – we didn't get a lot of feedback forms. Sometimes I can't decide how I feel about a film right away. Time for reflection is needed.

  1. I was baffled as to how they filmed Marion Cottilard as a double amputee and there is a youtube film explaining how it was done:

    1. So she didn't suffer for her art so much as I'd imagined
