Jimmy's Hall

Unfortunately, I missed this one. Judging from the feedback, it was a cracker, coming out at 92%, the second most highly rated film of the season, just behind the Yorkshire Lad. It seems the newspaper critics were not so impressed. Only 2 and 3 stars in the Telegraph and the Observer.

There's some background information on Gralton in his Wikipedia entry here:

And an “infographic” in the Guardian here:

The audience rating  was 92%:

A Deserves an “A+”. The highlight of an excellent season of films. Looking forward to next season.
A A reminder of Ireland's history with great effects and humour. Music and dancing great to watch. Jimmy was a charismatic guy.

A Very thought provoking. Relevant to today's society.
A More political films, please.
A Well worth missing a fifth set match @ Wimbledon. Great photography by K. L.
A
A Excellent film — spoilt by boom boom boom from below and lights going on and off. Thanks.
A Brilliant.
A Wonderful!
A Brilliant film, very evocative. A simple story told with feeling and good reference to the political situation of the time.
B Very good film. Sad that Jimmy never went back home. Seems quite trivial in relation to what happens today but in the end it was all to do with the power of the priest.
B Typical social conscience from Ken Loach, but with subtlety and humour. Very enjoyable.
B Most enjoyable.
B Accent made it difficult to catch everything that was said.
B Irish accent was sometimes hard to understand.
B A slice of Irish history beautifully portrayed.
B
B An excellent introduction to the Film Society
B Graphic illustration of a bad period in English (sic) history. Very enjoyable.
B Well presented.
