About Wakefield Film Society

Wakefield Film Society
Wakefield Film Society was formed at the end of 2008. A small group of people got together and wanted to show non-mainstream films in Wakefield.

We didn't know if we'd have an audience, but decided to put on a film in January 2009 in the upstairs room at Henry Boons. We had the help and support of Tony Davison, the Chairman of the Yorkshire Film Societies Group. Tony brought along equipment and an Italian film, Pane e Tulipani, and forty film fans crowded in to watch.

Affiliated to BFFS

We've used several venues in the city. Our permanent venue from September 2014 is the newly restored Unity Hall. Follow the link on the blog.

We aim to show non-mainstream films from a range of genres and from different countries and which would not be available in local cinemas. For our current programme and film selection policy follow the links.

The Society is run by a small voluntary committee and all ticket income goes towards the hire of the venue, obtaining films and screening licences and paying for screening equipment.
The committee members are:

Sue Rigby
Pat Littlewood
Julian Humphries
Jane Becker
Tom Alderson
Anne Kendall
